These influences were also taken up by neo-classical architecture and sculpture in the 18th and 19th centuries. Reading the greats of Latin and Greek literature became a must for the educated elites.

In 1070 The Corpus Juris Civilis (Body of Civil Law, also known as Justinian code) was discovered in a library in Pisa. It immediately became widely studied and influential. It is the foundation of the civil law of many modern countries.
