Houses have for the most part grown larger and with more rooms than our ancestors first designed. Not only are there more rooms in today's homes, the room size has grown larger and serve distinct purposes not thought of in the past. Today we have a home gym room, a media center room, a craft center, many full bathrooms and even closets large enough for a small child to live in if necessary.

Our houses are heated and cooled far differently than in the past, insulation is far superior as are the windows. The kitchen has magical appliances great granddad would not recognize and great grandmother would swoon over. No one had a garage way back when but there might have been a horse stable on the property or down the lane where you could park the horse. Few homes today keep a separate room for keeping dry wood or coal and only the very rich horsey set keep a mudroom.
