Speaking only for myself the altar in a church represents a holy place of prayer where one can kneel in the presence of God and pray. This makes it a very important place to me. Unfortunately I have found that the altar these days is not used as frequently as it should be by Christians. This is probably due to the fear of embarassment and what others may think if they see you praying at the altar. I believe that on any given Sunday at any Christian church every member should be on their knees at the altar. If for no other reason than to thank God for his loving mercy on the sinful lot of us. Every Christian should find time for the altar and place great importance in it. Hope this helps and hope to see you at the altar one day!
christians only survived in Western Europe
Perhaps the most important thing that Constantine did for Christians was to declare religious tolerance, thus allowing Christians (and others) to worship openly. He also gave the main Christian Church of his time state patronage, making it socially and politically desirable for some, to become Christians. He convened and chaired the Christian Council of Nicaea in 325.
Theatrical performances were part of festivals in honour of a god, hence the altar before which it was performed. The altar also was later used to keep props and actors which were brought out at the appropriate time.
the three most important roots of the scientific revolution were muslims, ancient greeks, and christians/jews
Partly because it helps them remember how much Jesus suffered for them & how much He loves them
There isn't really an "altar" in a mosque in the way that churches have one. There is a small recession in one wall, called a "mihrab" that indicates the direction to pray, and there is a platfrom that the imam sits on when giving a sermon, which is called a "mimbar," but no altar.
No, not all. Some Baptist churches do not have an altar, for example.
I think Christians don't believe this.Hospices are important to all people not so important to Christians.
The (Christian) Altar is where the Holy Communion takes place. It is a kind of high table usually located at the front of churches with a cross on it. The word Alter reminds Christians of the sacrifice and death of Jesus on the cross.
Jerusalem has some significance for Christians as that is where Jesus was crucified but really it is just a city there is nothing holy or important about Jerusalem for Christians. There is nothing important about going there.
An altar is actually called "the altar", although if there are many altars in a Church, they may be called by a specific name, like the main altar, the high altar, the side altar, the Blessed Virgin Mary altar, the altar of repose, the Blessed Sacrament altar, the St. Joseph altar, etc.
It is symbolic of when people would do sacrifices at an alter before Christ. When someone prays at an alter, they are giving God their lives to him as a living sacrifice. It is where Christians can symbolically lay down their problems and requests before the Lord.
The same as the use of a Catholic altar.. it is the most important furniture peice in the church. It represents God's prescence with a cross or crucifix. Holy Communion is performed by the altar, as well as other religious ceremonies.
AnswerJustice is important for all people, including Christians. Without justice, oppression can rule, and there will be no civilised society.
From a Christian standpoint, Diocletian was important because he instigated the last Great Persecution of the Christians.
It's important to Christians because WWJD is a reminder of how we should act as Christians and that we should think of how Jesus would handle a situation before doing something that is wrong.
So they can focus their petition to the Christian God. They"re not worshiping the image (statue, picture, symbols) but the God it symbolizes. It's like facing the flag when singing the National Anthem. The people are not honoring the flag but the Nation it symbolizes.
