The major phases of building a rig could be split into the following:
* Planning * ** This usually takes the most time. Could take as long as months or just a few hours if you're comfortable with buying new parts.
** Research into the parts you want to buy. Check for possible incompatibilities. * Buying & Shipping * ** Depending on the source and availability, may take from a few days to around a week. * Unpacking and Assembling * ** Once all the parts have arrived, should take an hour to a few hours.
* Initial Installation * ** An hour, give or take. Another half hour or so for hardware drivers. * Troubleshooting * ** Variable times. Ranges from zero (everything works from the get-go) to a week or so (parts arrived dead on arrival, sending for a replacement, incompatible, etc.). In the end, the entireprocess would have a varied time. However, the actual assembling of the computer itself is usually only a fraction of the time taken.
It took my brother about 4-5 hours. But its a good computer.

Perhaps it will not take as long as some think to build a computer complex enough to duplicate the human brain.
Depends on what you mean by from scratch, and what kind of computer. Anywhere from minutes to years.
It took Charles Babbage 9 years to get the computer right.
how long does it take to build a asimo
how long did it take to build the half moon
how long did it take to build the scottish parliment?
how long did it take to build cabot tower
An electronic computer has miniaturization, speed, and flexibility which you cannot possibly get if you build a purely mechanical computer our of gears and levers.
hs2 will take 15 years to build
how long does it take to build a beam bridge of 2400 sq ft
i dont even know and i never will so get off this computer and stop wasteing your dang time
