How many Jews were there before the Holocaust?

There were about 16 million Jews worldwide before the Holocaust; afterwards, about 10 million.

6 million Jews died in the Holocaust. But had there not been a Holocaust, many of those who died would have had great-grandchildren by now.

It is hard to say as there are different figures. The answers are different if you want to include the numbers of those who escaped as well as those who survived. I perfer to go by a pre-war survey which says that there was approximately 11 million Jews in Europe, of these 6 million perished.
