Well, normally, the word Beta means second in command.

Like say there is a wolf pack made up of Jeff, Billy, Bob, Joe, Mack, Justin, Jessie, and Jessica.

Jeff is the alpha and Joe is the beta. Jeff can boss around Billy, Bob, Joe, Mack, Justin, Jessie, and Jessica. Where Joe can only boss around Billy, Bob, Mack, Justin, Jessie, and Jessica, he can't boss around Jeff, ever.

That is pretty much the basic meaning of Beta, the second in command.

Who leads the wolf pack?

The leader of a wolf pack is often the Alpha Female. She leads the hunts, and her mate, the Alpha Male, is second in command. The strongest wolves are the Betas; they protect the pack. Omegas, are in fact highly respected and are the third highest rank, they specialize in calming hostility.

What is a less dominant wolf called?

There doesn't seem to be any distintion for wolves that are less dominant than the alpha male and female. The others are just part of the pack. ======= Of course, you probaly know that both alphas are the rulers below them are the betas, who sometimes rule the pack when the alphas are not there, or even lead small hunting groups if the pack splits. They are also the peacemakers of the pack under the betas are the middle pack. They pretty much simply hang around without really a rank. under them is the omega. They are the lowest ranking wolf. They get teased and picked on, snapped at with almost every move they make by the rest of the pack. Normally they tend to leave the pack and become lone wolves. Normally it is weak, sick, and/or older wolves that hold this rank.

What does delta wolf mean?

The delta wolf is 3rd in the rankings, below the alpha and Betas. There may only be 1 male and 1 female Delta wolves. The Deltas are trained to be Beta wolves by the currenct Beta, and when that Beta wolf dies or is thrown from the pack then the Delta may choose to become a Beta or stay as a Delta. The Deltas aren't extremely important, but they have a voice. Deltas cannot make decisions in the pack, unline Betas and Alphas. Delta wolf is less talked about therefore few people know much about them. They are not interested in gathering a following nor will they be led; the lone wolf. They will align themselves with various Alphas if both see the other as true equals. Is so, he respects the Alpha's position in the Alpha's own pack. If not, he simply moves on to somewhere else to do what he needs to before returning to is own original pack. He does not care where he lands in the pack lineup when he arrives 'home', but often becomes the Alpha by default or by defeating the original-pack's current alpha if he views them an unacceptable leader. Or he may choose a lifetime as a Delta continually learning from and sharing with each pack he communes with. He is respected as having a purposeful life but none other ever really understands what that purpose is.
