There were 102 colonists and 52 died the first winter. In an attempt to conceal their growing weakness the Pilgrims tried to bury them secretly in unmarked graves. Their burial place was not discovered until their bones were revealed after a torrential rainstorm one hundred years later.
Captain Christopher Jones had intended to start back to England in the Mayflower as soon as the Pilgrims found a settling place, but his crew was also ravaged by disease. Perhaps half of the Mayflower's crew died as well before Jones started the return voyage in the spring of 1621. Jones himself died within about another two years, perhaps worn out by the privations and exertions of that hard winter at Plymouth colony.
About 80 people died in the first 6 months
It was the first "sucessful colony". It was a royal colony English in fact. It was not as sucessful as it was given credit for...the people wanted gold and wanted to be rich from gold that they thought was in the 'new world'. There was no gold but they looked for it so much that they (population of Jamestown was mostly all men) did not plant or build good houses. They made bad relations with the Indians they always wanted help and their food since the people of Jamestown had none, there was a drought, and it was in a swamp in present day Virginia which was bad land and had mosquitoes and bad water that they had to drink. The disease spread, many died the first winter and new people had to come over. Eventually after about 3 years a few women came to Jamestown.
People in Jamestown lived like us, but they had less technology. Soon, a disease and famine came shortly after their captain left. Many died, at didn't rebuild after a long time.

False because during the winter half of them died.
Of the 102 passengers on the Mayflower, 2 died before landing at present-day Cape Cod. They spent the winter on the Mayflower, since they did not have housing, and after suffering scurvy, pneumonia and tuberculosis, only 53 were alive in the spring.45 of the 102 emigrants died in the first winter. By Thanksgiving there were only 53 people left to celebrate.
The winter of 1609-1610 is known as the "Starving Time" in the Jamestown settlement of Virginia. During this harsh winter, the colonists faced extreme food shortages, leading to widespread famine and the deaths of over four hundred people. The combination of drought, lack of provisions, and conflicts with Indigenous peoples exacerbated the dire conditions. This event significantly impacted the survival and future of the Jamestown colony.
In the first six months of its establishment in 1607, Jamestown experienced significant hardships, resulting in the deaths of about 70 of the original 104 settlers. The high mortality rate was primarily due to disease, malnutrition, and conflicts with local Indigenous tribes. By the end of the first winter, the population had dwindled to just about 38 survivors.

The English sent colonist over to America to settle. They needed people to harvest crops to send back to England for profit. Jamestown was just a famous colony that was the first and largest to survive. Many colonies existed but they failed because people died of diseases, the cold, and starvation.
