Very little. They are widely considered to have worsened the situation by exporting the majority of available food from Ireland to Britain. They did however set up work houses for people to "earn" food. This consisted of a days toil in order to receive a meal afterwards. The work comprised of thing such as the infamous 'roads to nowhere' or famine roads- pointless roads were built where they would not be used in order to make work available. Charity was not provided.

The UK does not have an equivalent of the FBI. Most criminal investigations are handled by the Police, and the most serious ones are dealt with by the London Metropolitan Police (aka Scotland Yard). Serious Organised crime is dealt with by the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), a government organisation. Secret investigations are done by the Security Service, better known as MI5 (Military Intelligence Section Five). Both the Police, SOCA and MI5 come under control of the Home Office, an executive department of the British Government.
The Internal Revenue Service is a part of the United States Department of the Treasury. The British equivalent is HM Revenue and Customs, a non-ministerial department of the U.K. Government. Much of this work used to be dealt with by another department, Inland Revenue, which was merged with HM Customs and Excise in 2005.
