deleware was founded in 1672 by captain jack sparrow. he stumbled across the land and named it deleware because the land had lots of cotton candy clouds and the rivers were full of tasty freezes in wich can be found at present day speedway. thank you for giving me the oppertunity to write this answer this lovely morning....goodnight

John Cabot was the first Englishman to explore the area known today as Delaware in 1497. Henry Hudson and fellow Dutch explorers were to first to occupy the land. Several people, including William Penn and the Duke of York claimed legal ownership and the land was held as part of Pennsylvania from 1682-1776.
