Fighting a war is just that. There is a conflict and it must be resolved by any means necessary. Filibustering happens so that there is an open line of communication between all parties so a war doesnt break out.
The Cloture Rule
Any war in which the actual fighting is going on in a different country than the one the describer is in in.
American soldiers were fighting on the European front against Germany (this front often includes those fighting in Africa) and the Pacific front against Japan.
Each country had its own culture and own way of fighting. The allied troops seemed to be capable of adapting to different techniques of fighting that each country brought on. Each battle they had to improve themselves quickly in order to win.
Civil war is when one part of a nation fights another part of the same nation. World war is when several nations are fighting several other nations simultaneously.
The civil war was different because in the civil war it was northern America fighting southern America. in other wars it was all of America fighting a different country. They were fighting because the South (or the Confederates) wanted to keep slavery in the US. The North ( or the union) was fighting to abolish slavery in the US. Of course, the North won.
The wars are not comparable. All had different causes, and were fought under different conditions. However, the Confederates liked to compare themselves with the heroes of the American Revolution, fighting for self-government. And the fighting at Petersburg in 1864-5 did resemble the trench warfare of World War 1.
