It was made up to look like a pleasant place to live for the Red Cross inspectors. It was also a place where the more artistic were sent.
It was used as a model village. Conditions there were better than in other ghettos and the Nazis would make films there to show that the Jews were being treated humanely.

There were two separate camps at Theresienstadt. One was a Gestapo prison for actual and suspected members of the Czech resistance, the other was a concentration camp (and transit camp) for Jews. It was intended as a model concentration camp that could be shown off to the Red Cross, and it had many of the features of a ghetto, such a nominal self-government; some cultural activities were also allowed. However, about 33,000 inmates were killed and about 85,000 were sent to Auschwitz, where they were gassed.

Yes, there was a railhead and 'loading point' on the edge of the ghetto, where people were put on slow freight trains for Treblinka and other killing centres.
Czechoslovakia was not a part of the Soviet Union. It was amongst of the other countries that were part of the Warsaw Pact and it was a communist country.
