Before the American Civil War, black people were treated entirely unfairly, because they were still slaves. The war was about the argument is slavery good or bad. Slaves were thought to be inferior (not as good) as their white masters. They were made work for nothing and only given small portions of food.

Hope that helps :)

Why was black soldier paid lesser then white soldier in the civil war?

Back then, black people were looked down on by we Americans, the Civil War was the war on slavery, when black people were treated like things instead of people, and were sold or traded among the people and put to hard work for no money, very little food, and small "homes". Americans probably didn't pay black people more for that reason, because they weren't important back then. Hope that helps
