The Chinese immigrated to America to build the Transcontinental Railroad because they needed to earn money. The people in China often had to sell daughters into slavery in order to pay off financial debts. Charles Crocker hired the Chinese because he said, "If the Chinese could build the Great Wall, why can't they lay down the tracks to a railroad?".
They brought their workmanship skills, labor; the Chinese became gold miners during the Gold Rush of 1849 and built the transcontinental railroad in 1869.
In the 19th Century, many Chinese immigrants made California their home. The current huge Chinatown in San Francisco displays that. With that said, many Chinese found work building the railroads. Sadly they were treated like dirt.
In the nineteenth century, in the US, many immigrants were treated badly. This was especially true for Irish immigrants. One large reason that they were mistreated was the fact that most of them were Catholics. The Protestant majority in the US despised and feared Catholics. Later on, Chinese immigrants were also treated badly.
Like ******* immigrants!
They were treated like dogs.

Most Irish and Chinese immigrants were recriuted to come over to American and work on building the transcontinental railroad. Working conditions were so terrible, many people died while on the job.
Chinese immigrants were treated very poorly by the Central Pacific Railroad company, as well as their home state of California. They were paid significantly less than white workers of the same skill level. They also weren't provided with complementary food and shelter like the white workers. They were given the most dangerous of the available jobs. As for California, the state passed laws keeping them from voting or becoming citizens, segregating their children from schools, and unfairly taxing them.
They didnt get much pay They ate a little They had to work in severe weather

The Chinese were treated harshly due to a combination of factors such as racism, economic competition, and xenophobia. They faced discriminatory laws, violence, and social exclusion, particularly in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries when Chinese immigrants were seen as a threat to white Americans.
