Actually I believe they were used for storing the royals bodies after they had passed away, or at least I believe that's what I read in my social studies book...

That's the same thing, look up "tomb" in the dictionary. However it was also more than just that. The reason they were so huge is because there are several rooms in it to keep their personal belongings, because the Egyptians believed that the kings' ghosts would roam the pyramid. I'm sure you could find some diagrams online of what went where and why.

The Egyptian pyramids were used a burrial tombs for kings, pharohs, and queens. In the pyramids there would be up to 100 rooms, most carrying the passed one's things, food, and water for the journey to the after life. The most popular place for a pyramid is the VALLEY OF THE KINGS.

They were basically extremely large monuments/tombs, built generally for their kings (pharoahs). They weren't really "used for" anything in a practical sense.
