Fairly well, but if taken as a POW they were treated harshly. Andersonville was a confederate prisoner of war camp in the final12 months of the civil war. War crimes were committed in this prison of union soldiers. They had lack of food, water, and lived in unsanitary conditions. Of the 45,000 men held there nearly 13,000 died from scurvy, diarrhea, and dysentery.
During the Civil War, the Confederacy had approximately 750,000 soldiers.
WWII men fought the good war. Vietnam returnees were treated as losers.
Any returning servicemember is and was treated better than a Vietnam returnee. With the one exception of Confederate soldiers returning home (the south) after the US War of the Rebellion (American Civil War/US Civil War/War between the states). But then technically, those Rebels/Confederates weren't US servicemen either. Union/Federal/Yankees/Blue Coats/Northerners/etc. were actually US servicemen.
they were treated poorly
Badly by most civilians, treated as brothers by their fellow servicemen.
great. they loved war. they were unaffected by deaths because they were used to slaves being treated that way!
Yes, soldiers fought in the Civil War. Sadly, that is the fact of war.
The same as white soldiers, to shoot and be shot at.
