A:Jericho was one of the oldest walled cities in the world, almost continuously occupied until the sixteenth century BCE, when an earthquake, that caused damage right across the region around 1550 BCE, brought down the walls, resulting in Jericho being abandoned. At the time of the supposed military conquest by the Israelites under Joshua, around 1400 BCE, a small, unwalled village had been built on the site.
