If I were Hirohito, I would prefer to be bombed. If Japan was invaded and the Allies occupied my nation, my country could have been reduced to a long period of guerrilla warfare in the cities before I gave the order to surrender, which, because of the way we trained our soldiers for the war, would bring my people shame that they feared more than death. Another issue that could have arision had my country not been bombed would be the interference with the Soviets. If Japan was occupied by all Allies, than it would have been carved up between them, and the piece that the Soviets held could have become another economic and social pithole like North Korea, East Berlin, and East Germany. So, for the lives of many of my people, to spare my country's national pride, and to keep it united under one government, I would accept the Allies decision to use nuclear weapons (although the point was well made with the first one, and I don't think it needed the second).
