In 1666, the Great Fire of London occurred, devastating a large portion of the city. The fire began on September 2 in a bakery on Pudding Lane and raged for several days, destroying thousands of homes, St. Paul's Cathedral, and numerous other buildings. It left a significant portion of the population homeless and led to major changes in building regulations and urban planning in London. Despite the destruction, the fire also paved the way for the city's eventual rebuilding and modernization.
