I believe that where Mesopotamia was located is now in Iraq and Syria. That's what my social studies teacher said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No. While Israel is part of the Fertile Crescent, it is not part of Mesopotamia, which is mostly in the modern nation of Iraq, but is also partly in Syria, Turkey, and Iran.
Mesopotamia is a region. Iraq is a country. Therefore, Mesopotamia has existed since the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers started flowing. Iraq has only been a political entity since 1919 and a truly independent one since 1954, its borders never changing. As a result, Mesopotamia has always been in Iraq since Iraq began to exist.
The Gulf War (1990-1991) included Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm, and was fought to liberate the country of Kuwait on the Persian Gulf. Kuwait had been occupied by the forces of Iraq, then ruled by Saddam Hussein. Claiming that Kuwait was historically part of Iraq, Saddam ordered the invasion and occupation of the country in August, 1990. A coalition of forces led by the US expelled the Iraqis between January 17 and February 28, 1991.
