Nowaday Bangkok is consisted of 2 sides area bracing Chao Phraya river. The west side is "Thonburi" and the east side is "Phra Nakorn" (the official city). The west side "Thonburi" had become capital before the east one, in 1767. Established by King Taksin The Great. After his reign, King RAMA I had moved the capital to the east side in 1782. Thonburi side was appended and relieved of the definition of Bangkok several times. Until 21 Dec 1971, Thonburi side was permanently appended and Nowady Bangkok was born from that moment ever since.
