Detriot is not that bad of a city. I've lived here my enitire life and never got my car stolen, never got jumped, never had any problems in the city. I even had to move to eight mile (close to where the movie eight mile was filmed) for 3 years and yet, never had any problems. Certain areas of Detroit are the ones you want to stay away from. Like 7-mile, Allan Park, Hazel Park, Rodchester Hills, places like that are where you'll get your car stolen, beat up, and mugged. Hell, I've even seen a few Crips and Bloods (gangs) goin' at each other once, scariest moment of my life. Other areas of Detroit like Warren, Eastpionte, Rosevillle, Center Line, are the best places to be. Center Line especially because if you're new, everyone is so welcoming and nice, barely any gangs, and just really good energy from everyone. Detroit has a lot of art and culture like the Heidelberg Project which is located downtown (coolest art project I've seen, safest place downtown), the Science Center (ages 6 - 12 will be most amused), The American Museum of African American History (very cool, mummies and everything), Comerica Park (they tore down the Old Tiger's Stadium), Joe Louis Arena, and many other places that are simply amazing. Personally, I have nothing against the city, I love it. Honestly, it's probably not the best place to raise your kids. So is Detroit bad? Yes and No.
