What is a road hole golf green?

The Road Hole refers to the 17th hole on The Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland. The tee shot requires an aggressive line over the hotel to find the narrow fairway. There is an old tarmac road which runs up the right of the hole and sweep round behind the green. The raised green has a severe slope at the back which sees some balls roll onto the road, and there is a wall behind the road. The major attraction of this hole is the Road Hole bunker, it is a very deep green side bunker and it is definitely a card wrecker.
