It is most likely that the US, Australia, Russia, China, Japan, Canada, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, North Korea, Thailand, Burma, India, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan, Ceylon, Israel, Syria, Turkey, France, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Taiwan...just to name a few...might "traditionally" be against military conscription too. It is NATURAL & NORMAL for humans and other living creatures to seek food, shelter, and pain avoidance. The purpose of the military is war (it's not the peace corps). War is starvation ("C" rations in Vietnam were close to starvation...there were times when even "C rats" were GONE!); No shelter (a foxhole); and lots of pain (from mud, dampness, rats, snakes, spiders, mosquitos, rain, heat, poor hygiene (very poor...teeth falling out due to poor brushing for 8 to 12 months without tooth paste or mouth wash), using ONLY "C" Ration toilet paper/NO BATH & NO SHOWER/had to use creeks and rivers...Friendly fire from 250 pound aerial bombs, sometimes 500 or 750 pound aerial bombs, one US M113 ACAV was hit (a direct hit but the shell didn't go off) by a US 155mm Self Propelled artillery shell, plus .50 caliber and 7.62 caliber machine guns from friendly cross fire engagements, not to mention mis-placed 2.75 inch aerial rockets fired from AH-1 Cobra gunships-and the enemy...he often used CHICOM RPGs, AK47s or RPD machine guns).

When and why did the draf for the military stop?

The draft for the military in the United States ended in 1973, transitioning to an all-volunteer force. This change followed widespread anti-war sentiment during the Vietnam War, which fueled protests against conscription. The government sought to create a more professional military, believing a volunteer force would be more effective and better motivated. The last draft lottery was held in 1972, and the final draftees were called up in 1973.

Who was for and who was against conscription in World War 2 and what were their reasons for this?

Many people thought of conscription as a sign of loyalty to Britain, their mothercountry, and thought that it would also support those men who were already fighting. However, trade unions feared that their members might be replaced by cheaper foreign or female labour and opposed conscription. Some groups argued that the whole war was immoral, and it was unjust to force people to fight.
