In real life, NO. In Hollywood history yes, there are two Queen-to-Queen encounters in BOTH of the movies based on this tragic queen. Katherine Hepburn and Florence Eldridge were the two Queens involved in the thirties film, I am not up on the more recent Mary, Queen of Scots TV-movies. there was a huge interest in Tudor times- from Henry VIII up through Elizabeth I in the late sixties and early seventies fueled by TV dramas, articles on Elizabeth in National Geographic and so on.

You are confused. Mary I of Scotland (Mary Queen of Scots) was the daughter of Elizabeth's cousin. Elizabeth's half-sister was Mary I of England (Bloody Mary). She obviously did not kill her as Elizabeth had a long and fruitful reign after Mary's death.

Mary of Scotland marries her cousin Henry Stuart, a descendant of old Henry 7, through Margaret, and thus an heir to the English throne. Scotland is having all sorts of political uproars, Henry Stuart gets murdered, they chase Mary out. Mary and Henry's son becomes James 5th of Scotland. Mary runs off to seek help or asylum from Liz, remembering Mary's claims on the thrown, promptly arrests her and chops off her head.

When Liz dies, she leaves no heir, being unmarried and the Virgin Queen and all. When they go searching for the nearest heir, it turns out to be James ( Stuart) v of Scotland, through his descent thru Margaret from old Henry 7, he becomes James 1 King of England and Scotland. Seems like all that head choppin and alliances were pointless.
