- Yes, for many young men and women who are returning from war coming home can be very difficult. They have had months or more than one tour of duty and have seen how horrific war is as well as trying to stay alive. Once home although they are considered heroes their world is difficult because they are trained in taking orders; are use to being extremely cautious to avoid the enemy or spot the enemy and thus, once home loud noises such as a car back-firing can put these individuals into a mind-set of alertness. They have also had to grow up quickly and faced with such horrific scenes of war that it is difficult for them to fit back into normal family life. These warriors are not the same person as when they left and have lost friends they have known in the war which they fought. Some become depressed; have flashbacks; others withdraw from society and prefer to spend their life on the quiet side and almost all do not want to talk about the war. There are some who are not traumatized by the war and can fit into society but they are few and at some point in their life they will be treated by a counselor for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Others may not feel they will ever be the same in society as they once knew it and may apply for another tour of duty.
