There are two theories which are obvious- the curse was real or the curse was fake. There is evidence that the curse could be fake, but there is no actual solid evidence. No one is absolutely certain, but they say that instead of the curse killing Lord Carnavon (one of the first people to enter the tomb) it was in fact the bacteria spores he inhaled while entering the tomb. Bacteria had developed from the foods left in the tomb (it was left there because they thought the Pharaoh would need it in the afterlife) and once the tomb was opened, the spores were released and Lord Carnavon inhaled them. At the time he as not in his best of health and was in fact quite ill, so it would make sense that he died once inhaling the bacteria. Others who believe the curse is real say that this is not true. When the tomb was opened and they unwrapped the mummy, they found a strange wound on his cheek. Lord Carnavon was bitten by a mosquito in that exact same spot. He cut the wound while shaving and it became infected and he died. All part of the curse.
It is also said that the exact moment Carnavon died all the lights in Cairo mysteriously blacked out. This can also be explained for apparently at the time blackouts were common in Cairo, but I am not sure if this is true.
It is also said that the exact moment he died his favourite dog Susie howled mournfully and suddenly died. People argue this can't be true, because Carnovan died approximately at 1:00am and Susie died at around 4:00am. But it in fact does make sense because Egypt and England (where Carnovans house was) are in different timezones.
But another thing that baffle those who believe in the curse is that the very first person to open the tomb, Howard Carter, lived on a decade after the opening and died later from a disease of the lung. He lived to a ripe old age. People argue that his punishment was to watch his colleagues drop off like flies around him as he watched them die. This could be true, but people argue that if the curse was in fact true he should have died the worst death among all his colleague's. Once again no one is certain of whether it is true or false. It remains a mystery. But all this information just boils down to one question.
Do you believe in the curse?
To protect him.
Not really. The all died of old age or something like that, but it was not a curse if that is what you are asking.
