No it was not. Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City were both built during the Ming Dynasty, but they are not the same thing. The Fobidden City is a palace and Tiananmen Square is a plaza. They are separated by the Gate of Heavenly Peace. Both are situated fairly close together
