The Battle of Shiloh
The Trent Affair
fire McClellan
US President Lincoln had to relieve General George B. McClellan after the Battle of Antietam because he failed to pursue the retreating enemy and McClellan could not be trusted based on his overall battle actions since 1861 and his political differences with Lincoln. Lincoln was as fair to McClellan as possible. He did not even wait until the midterm elections to let the general understand he would be replaced.

Lincoln was a Unionist and opposed the South's rebellion. With that said, Lincoln did not want to be accused of starting a war. The full blame for starting the armed conflict was because the US Fort Sumter was fired upon and surrendered. Lincoln now had every reason to stop the rebellion, that he did not start. Lincoln had no choice but to call for 30,000 volunteers to put down the Southern rebellion. This soon led up to the first major battle, the First Battle of Bull Run in July of 1861.
The Trent Affair
The quality that Grant had - an instinctive urge to pursue a beaten army and destroy it. When Grant's political enemies were trying to persuade Lincoln to fire him, Lincoln said "I can't spare this man. He fights."
Despite Grant's capture of both Fort Henry and Fort Donelson, critics wanted someone to blame for the massive losses on both sides with no visible area gained. After the Battle of Shiloh, many newspapers were not happy with Grant's decision to leave his troops bivouacked and not entrenched. His command was transferred Gen. George Thomas and he was humiliated by being made second in command. Depressed, he came close to resigning and possibly changing the outcome of the war However, his friend, General Sherman convinced him to stay and the rest is history.
He had credibility, where others had forfeited theirs. Grant had liberated the Mississippi, and then saved the Army of the Cumberland from starvation in Chattanooga. When some of the cabinet were agitating for Grant's removal, Lincoln said "I can't spare this man. He fights."
Fire demand refers to the amount of water required to extinguish a fire. It is calculated based on factors such as the size of the fire, the type of materials burning, and the fire's intensity. Understanding fire demand is crucial for ensuring that fire protection systems, such as sprinklers, are designed to effectively control and suppress fires.
