The priests and warriors and other important people were members of the upper class of the urban classes and lived near to the large ceremonial pyramids and other temples. The middle class was mostly artisans. The middle class surrounded the upper class. Then, in descending order: farmers and fishermen, servants, slaves and beggars lived around the middle class.
