The Norse colony in Greenland lost contact with Norway and Iceland by 1450. It was originally settled in the warm season around 986. Despite the fact that they were typically pastoral farmers, the Norse made do with growing short-season crops and hardy animals like sheep and other cattle. By the 13th century, Greenland may have had a Norse population of 5,000 between their two settlements. As the climate shifted, the settlements were attacked, and crops and trade failed, the colonies eventually faded away.
the vikings did not originate in Canada. they are said to have originated in the Sweden- Iceland area. They did immigrate to Canada, though. Bjarni Herjolfsson was said to be the first Icelandic viking to land in Canada, but he isn't the official one. He was on his way to Greenland but lost his way, landing in Labrador or Baffin Island in Canada.A small settlement was discovered in Canada, and it it theorized that it was inhabited by a people of Viking-Eskimo extraction before being abandoned in the Middle Ages.Leif Ericson was born in Iceland, but moved to Greenland in 986. That same year Bjarni Herjolfson, who was following Ericson to Greenland, missed the island and sailed in a south-westerly direction and sighted both the Labrador coast and Newfoundland. And so hearing of Bjarni Herjolfson's adventures, Leif Ericson led the first voyage the North America around 1000 A.D.
In about 986, Bjarni Herjólfsson, Leif Ericson and Þórfinnr Karlsefni from Greenland reached North America and attempted to settle the land they called Vinland. They created a small settlement on the northern peninsula of present-day Newfoundland, near L'Anse aux Meadows. Conflict with indigenous peoples and lack of support from Greenland brought the Viking colony to an end within a few years. The archaeological remains are now a UN World Heritage Site.
