Guadalcanal. It wasn't the fighting on the island(s) that took six months; although watching the "History Channel(s)" on TV would lead one to believe that. What TV just briefly mentions, are the sea battles surrounding the island(s). This is PROBABLY due to the lack of film footage and re-enactment scenes for the naval battles. Film footage taken during sea battles is often ruined by sea air and sea water (spray). Additionally, some fairly good sea battle footage may have been lost when a warship was SUNK! In a comparatively way, a famous Russian "war artist" who was specifically commissioned to paint "battle scenes" for the up-coming sea engagements during the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905, perished when riding as a passenger "guest" aboard a Russian battleship; it struck a mine, exploded and sank, taking much of it's crew with it. It is "Cheaper" & "Easier" to hire actors to perform LAND BATTLES than it is for actors to perform SEA BATTLES. As in real life; ships are expensive and big. As for Guadalcanal, the navy which won control of the surrounding sea, would win the island. The sea fights surrounding Guadalcanal were the most ferocious sea battles in naval history; the US Navy lost two Admirals in surface actions there: Callaghan & Scott. And yet...leave it to television to leave the important information out.

What is the location of the first jungle warfare in the pacific theater?

Guadalcanal.

What kind of fighting was common in the pacific during world war 2?

During World War II, the Pacific theater was characterized by intense jungle warfare, amphibious assaults, and naval engagements. Battles often took place on remote islands, where American and Allied forces faced entrenched Japanese troops, leading to brutal hand-to-hand combat. The use of aircraft carriers and naval power was crucial, as seen in pivotal battles like Midway and Leyte Gulf. Guerrilla tactics and close-quarters fighting in the dense jungles also defined many confrontations, making the conflict particularly grueling and challenging.

In Lord of the Flies what does the author mean by calling the part of the island where the plane crashed a scar. What does it imply about the boys' presence on the island?

its represents the beginning of the destruction by man on the island The scar is a gash in the jungle cause by the "passenger tube" of the airplane when it crashed onto the island. The "passenger tube" was carried out to sea by the storm which was occurring at the time, leaving the gash behind. The choice of the word scar implies an injury probably symbolising the effect of humans on the previously uninhabited pristine island.
