It is obviously a major advantage, but it is possible to do it without knowing Chinese, though it would be far more difficult. You would have to start with really simple things, like pointingto yourself and saying your name and then build it to "My name is..." and get people to repeat it using their own name. So you would need a lot of signs, like pointing at things. There are many challenges in teaching English to Chinese people. Chinese is different in terms of its grammar, rules, structures etc., so it is more difficult to explain corresponding features than it is for other languages. So certainly it is an advantage to be able to speak the language of your students. A very important rule in teaching any language is to use as much of it in the classroom and as little as possible of the language that your students speak. So it can be good if the teacher doesn't have full fluency in the students' language and it is good if there is a mix of native languages amongst the students, so that they are forced to speak English wherever possible to each other.
I think the most important civilization to the Chinese should be their language and characters. They are unique to others, and where Chinese culture and literature rooted.
I am an American English-language college teacher living in China. In this country, English is considered very important. It is an international language, and the Chinese can use it to communicate with people from many other countries, not only those whose native language is English. For example, there is a Japanese teacher here who knows little Chinese puts communicates primarily through English when not in class. Therefore, English is an important language for business. There is much valuable information in books and on the Internet that is only available in English. The students here in some majors such as psychology, economics, and even computers use some text books that are only in English. Chinese, on the other hand, is a much more challenging language to learn, especially if one wishes to be literate in Chinese.

The Huang-He people, associated with the Yellow River region in ancient China, primarily spoke various forms of early Chinese languages, which eventually evolved into Old Chinese. This language was part of the Sino-Tibetan language family. Over time, these dialects contributed to the development of the modern Chinese languages we recognize today.

The word has two meanings: the language or people of Britain. Therefore, in Chinese it will be "英语" when it refers to the language and will be "英国人" if it refers to the people. I hope it is helpful.
English as a Secondary Language is a course for learning English for people who do not speak it as their primary language. It is a course for learning to speak the English language, given in a location where most people speak English, but some (mostly immigrants) have a need to learn it the way others in the US, for example, learn Spanish, Russian or Chinese.
