Many similes were utilized by advocates of the Protestant Reformation, not just one, in their efforts to purify the Christian Faith: they likened the traditional authorities to blind persons, to crazy persons, to drunkards, to thieves, to demonic figures -- some even saw the Pope as 'like the Anti-Christ'; or, as Martin Luther sometimes claimed, the Pope was simply described as the Anti-Christ. In respect to the Protestant Reformation as an entire movement, several similes can be applied: it is (or, was) like the diversion of a river from one into many channels; or, it was like a mutiny aboard a ship that led to the formation of a new crew, a new ship, a new set of on-board rules, and much more, even if the same destination was still being sought.
