The site of a major naval battle in U.S. history is the Battle of Midway, which took place in June 1942 during World War II. This decisive engagement in the Pacific Theater marked a turning point in the war, as the United States Navy successfully defeated an attacking fleet of the Imperial Japanese Navy. The victory at Midway significantly weakened Japanese naval strength and shifted the balance of power in the Pacific in favor of the Allies.

There were several - mainly Salamis, Mykale, Eurymedon, Cyprus.
Battle of Manilla Bay, on 1 May 1898, part of the Spanish-American War. This happened in the Philippine Islands, which is technically an archipelago, not a single island. Manilla Bay is located on the island of Luzon. While this was a significant victory for the U.S.A., it did not signal the end of the Spanish-American War. American victories in large scale battles (both on land and sea) around Cuba were equally (if not more) important in forcing Spain to sue for peace. As a part of the peace settlement, Spain ceded the Philippines to the U.S.
There were two - Salamis, in the bay between the island of Salamis and Athens in 480 BCE, and at Mykale in Asia Minor in 479 BCE.
