There are , were several different types. Historically one shoud consider the older Czarist IKGB, of which the fictional Dimitri was a member. the IKGB had a number of badges and insignia based on the Czarist Double Eagle. some had the eagle blackened a camouflage measure) during the War and in the period of the Provisional Government which retained the Double Eagle but omitted the crown or crowns as the Czar had stepped down.( but was still alive)- forward to red times- the Popular Sword and shield design badge is Red and Gold with an orange surround- Orange implying International operations-. These are the more valuable KGB badges occasionally surfacing in war-Surplus stores. then there are midget badges for novelty wear. also there were a variety of rank-insignia devices- as with other military and police agencies- the KGB always had a Dress uniform, unlike the FBI and again a variety of insignia. a submarine Intelligence officer has both the Communist Red star and an Anchor and the Anchor is under the star- Think deep comrade! also- a variety of both Garrison ( traditional military) and more familiar ( Russian) hats both fore and aft and round-head, the latter more popular and comfortable/ it is claimed Red Sable hat were restricted to Field Grade ( major/inspector) and above and were made by Adolfo they had one in the (Russian) section of the Smithsonian as foreign insignia items, so it is said. Good hunting.
