The Battle of Thermopylae .
(the 300 Spartans were part of a 7,000-strong Greek force which held the pass).
The Battle of Thermopylae.
It was not just 300 Spartans, it was a force of about 7,000 from several Greek cities.
The Persian leader at the time of the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC was King Xerxes I. He was the son of Darius I and aimed to expand the Persian Empire by conquering Greece. Xerxes led a massive army against the Greek city-states, including a small contingent of Spartans led by King Leonidas, who famously resisted the Persian forces despite being vastly outnumbered.
Ok. 300 is about a spartan king names Leonidis. He is played by Gerard butler. In the movie Xerxes the Persian king, wants to conquor Sparta. Leonidis gathers an army of 300 men. He leads his men south to defeat xerxes. He is ambused alot. One of his men get injured and he sends him back to Sparta. His army and him dies at the end. The injured warrior gathers an army of either 1,000 or 10,000 Spartans. Then it doesn't show the rest. By the way there is 1,000,000 Persians.
The main Spartan army was kept at home to guard against a threatened Persian amphibious invasion.
The Spartans were professional soldiers in ancient Greece. Their martial discipline was unequaled in Western culture. Their idea of a march would be a full run for regular soldiers. To build their shield arms, they "marched" (ran) with their 60 lbs. (29 Kilo) shield straight out. The Spartan shield was key to their success in combat. A phalanx of Spartans could interlock their shields which was impenetrable at the time. A shield of that quality could not be breached alone and in combination allowed them to advance on their foes with spears penetrating the ranks of the enemy. The most famous Spartans were the 300 that stood against the 1,000,000 Persians of Xerxes' army. The Spartans managed to kill over 25,000 of Xerxes' army over the course of two and a half days.
The Persian Empire, under the leadership of King Xerxes I, invaded Greece and commanded their army during the battle of Salamis in 480 BCE. This naval battle was a crucial conflict in the Greco-Persian Wars, where the Greek city-states, united under the leadership of figures like Themistocles, ultimately defeated the larger Persian fleet. The victory at Salamis significantly weakened Xerxes' forces and marked a turning point in the war.
some people like me would say the battle of Thermopylae between the greek empire(Spartans) with king leonidos and his 300 men. Against the Persian army lead by Xerxes of around 10,000 troops which eventually after carnage won the battle.
After a battle or campaign was concluded.

King Xerxes.
Sparta and Athens, along with other Greek city-states, stopped King Xerxes' march into Greece at the Battle of Salamis in 480 BCE. This naval battle occurred in the straits between the island of Salamis and the Athenian coast, where the Greek fleet decisively defeated the Persian navy. Prior to this, the Persian advance was also halted at the Battle of Thermopylae, where a small Greek force, including Spartans led by King Leonidas, made a valiant stand against Xerxes' much larger army.
The main character of the film 300 is King Leonidas, played by Gerard Butler. He leads a small group of Spartans against the massive Persian army in the Battle of Thermopylae.
The Battle of Thermopylae .
Pericles had to over come him knowing the power of the Spartan's army before they went into battle with the Spartans.
Xerxes is said to have controlled over 500,00 men which was the largest army anyone had ever seen.
The Persians greatest army was The Immortals. There were about 10,000 of them and as soon as one died another Immortal replaced him. They were all specially trained warriors. They also had smaller weaker army that were defeated at Thermopylae. The Greeks and Spartans were defeated though because a Greek spy told the Persians a way around the pass of Thermopylae and the Greeks and Spartans were surrounded.
Most of the Persain army which had been busily sacking Athens nearby, led by their commander King Xerxes I.
did XerXes cut a soldier in half and march his army through him
