Perhaps the opening battle at Manila Bay because it set the stage for all that was to follow. It was a major victory made amazing in that no US losses were recorded. No US ship was lost and no US lives were lost because of combat. A total of 9 US sailors were wounded in action. Admiral Montojo had 161 killed and 210 men wounded and lost 2 armored cruisers and 5 unprotected cruisers, one gunboat, and one transport ship. The shore batteries were silenced and Admiral Dewey controlled Manila Bay. The Philippines and the Spanish Army were isolated from the War.
