These people didn't live a organized society ( art is one of the signs of a civilization). They were hunters and gathers and followed herds of animals. They had a basic oral language and no written language. They drew pictures of animals on cave walls and some of the reasons they may have done this is for religious purposes as a means of worship or power over the animal. This could also have been a way to document their world or leave basic messages for others like "this animal can be found here." We can only guess at the reasons why they are there.

Why, oh, why?! The same question can, of course, be made about every new type of art, from the stone age till today. The answer must be that one or more artists wanted to make something original. Which is what most artists always have wanted to.

During the Stone Age, advancements included the development of tools and weapons made from stone, bone, and wood, as well as the beginning of agriculture and animal domestication. Achievements from this period include the construction of shelters, the creation of cave art, and the development of complex social structures among early human communities.
During the Stone Age, language was likely a more important development than art. Language allowed early humans to communicate complex ideas, coordinate activities, and pass down knowledge through generations, which were essential for survival. While art played a role in early human expression and culture, the development of language had a more direct impact on the ability to thrive and adapt to changing environments.
