Dorothy Day, at the beginning of her life an avowed Communist, was involved in a relationship, and mothered a child which she aborted. In a common law marriage she gave birth to a daughter, who she loved dearly, and she may have had several affairs prior to her conversion a baptism into the Catholic Faith. Nothing stood in the way of her marriage with anyone, other than her own convictions. She worked tirelessly for the poor, and although thought to have maintained her initial communistic tendencies, lived her life serving the poor, and with the grace of God and the understanding of the church, may one day be listed among the "canonized" Saints of the Church, for indeed she must share in that joy already.
