The terms and details of Rachel Dolezal's resignation have not been released, and there is a chance that they may never be. Dolezal stated she was resigning because she felt it was in the best interest of the NAACP. The NAACP released a statement about the situation that was overall supportive of Dolezal and her work. Although there was a public controversy, it sounds like they parted ways on good terms.

Rachel Dolezal is a white woman that represents herself as black. Many feel that this is well within her rights. It is not uncommon for people identify with cultures or races outside of the one they were born into.

The controversy (overall) was not that she identifies with a different race. The controversy is that she lied about it, not just publicly, but on sworn government forms.

She advised that she was from a mixed racial background, and even told stories of the hardships of growing up black.

Many felt that this was a problem because she was backing herself professionally with these stories. It looked that she could personally empathize with what people were going through, when it turned out that she could not, at least in the way that she was representing.

She also used her NAACP credentials to help secure a position on the police oversight committee, a committee created to seek out dishonesty and misconduct within the agency.

Some have stated that they felt it would have been better for her to go on doing her work with the NAACP, but while being honest about who she is.
