The Medal of Honor (often erroneously called the Congressional Medal of Honor) that we award to soldiers who display incredible valor during battle (often at the cost of their own life) is absolutely NOT anything that was awarded to Dr. King, nor was he even eligible for it, having never served in the military, let alone combat.

The unfortunate similarity of medal designations has caused much confusion in the past and probably isn't going to stop anytime soon, since most people know virtually nothing about military medals.
