Were the ancient Greeks and Romans good warriors?

It's not. The Romans would have conquered the Greeks if they were stuffed into the same world. There were way more strategists in the roman times, and strategy had developed way beyond what the Greeks could have understood. Greece was not a larger empire, only at it largest under Alexander and still not as big. Most the countries he conquered were that of a lower stature than his own. Most of them just tried to overrun him, and the few that attempted strategy were so bad at it they just got overwhelmed. Alexanders military grew with each conquering. The more countries conquered the easier it becomes. He only stopped because his troops wanted to go home. Most in roman times understood about strategy and learned it before they were allowed to command an army. Roman milatary was far better than greek milatary

In my opinion. Romans they ruled a republic/empire for nearly 1000 years and amassed much more power than the Greeks ever did, some say Alexander was stronger but remember that Alexander was a Macedonian which many Greeks refused to call Greeks you also must remember the Romans were surrounded by many much more powerful nations such as the Eustants and many Greek colonies. and Alexanders father had already conquered large portions of Greece he had a amazing army and large wealth. yes the conquered the Persians but the Persians were already falling apart. So the Greek empire lasted 10 years the Romans 1000 Romans win :P

The question is not mute. The two did overlap, but by the time the Roman army invaded Sparta's territory, Sparta had been in a long, slow decline and the Romans were becoming stronger.

In the Battle of Gythium in 195 BC, the Romans did in fact defeat the Spartans, but it was a long hard fought battle. Hard to say which would be stronger if you compare the two in their prime. Both were professional armies. In the end, Rome won, but they were not fighting a Sparta at the height of it's power.

Yes, both the hoplites (and supporting troops) of ancient Greece and the legionnaires of Rome were superb warriors, although in very different styles.
