Things were pretty calm in '70 in Phu Bai AO (Area of Operation). You had to "look" for a fight in those heavily congested US areas in 1970. Or...go into the I Corps AO near the Laos border (Khe Sanh, Rock Pile, Lang Vei, etc.) or Con Thien (US Army names: A4 and C2 Firebases) AO near the DMZ, didn't have to look for a fight (trouble) in those places...the NVA were in those regions and they would hunt GI's!
I can't speak for all sectors of the Phu Bai perimeter but it was my understanding that Camp Eagle got hit a few times. We were on the Bravo sector (as I recall) 131st Avn Co. The air terminal got rocketed a few days be for I got in country early July '69. We had incoming 4 or 5 times in the first couple of months and then it got real quiet and pretty much stayed that way. That is where the phrase "Phu Bai is all right" came from.
Regarding "incoming", the only thing too close to our area was an air burst that hit at 0400 Sunday, ~ 21 July '70, primarily hitting our flight line and several of the ops buildings close to it. Turned out to be a "friendly" round. It killed a warrant officer and caused a few injuries. I was so short I could have run under the door to our hootch. (For those who missed the reference, "short" was a term that meant having very little time left on a tour of duty.... in my case, 3 days.) As for direct attacks, no, none that I know of directly in the Phu Bai perimeter. There were LZs very close to Phu Bai that got smacked pretty regularly but no penetration that I ever heard of. It was uncommonly quiet for many months. A bud wrote me a month after I DEROS'd and said they started getting hit again.
There were several. 1/502, 3/506, 2/327, 2/501st among other units.

== == Both come from English. In Japan, "Bai Bai" is used largely by teenagers, and is considered to be slang. One would not say "bai bai" to one's social superior. It is also considered slightly feminine, and is used more often by girls than by boys.
