The worst pile-up in history occurred on the M5 motorway in England in 2011, involving 34 vehicles and resulting in 7 fatalities and 51 injuries. Contributing factors included poor visibility due to fog, excessive speed, and drivers not adjusting their driving to the weather conditions.
WWII is not an example of history repeating itself because history never repeats its self. There is no way to have the exact same conditions on any given day in order to show that history can in fact repeat. History can also not repeat because time moves linearly and forward and thus there is no way for History to repeat. Even if things seem the same they are not because their are too many factors in each event of life that can greatly influence the outcome of any event. We can not learn from history specifically from events but we can use history to learn about the human condition and how we try to manage our problems. But we cannot simply justify an event with another event.
Rome burned in 64 AD during the reign of Emperor Nero. The consequences of this catastrophic event included widespread destruction of buildings, loss of life, and economic hardship for the city. The fire also led to rumors that Nero himself had started the fire, which damaged his reputation and led to increased persecution of Christians in Rome.
There was no reason for the world to end. There was no catalyst. The world will not end without some catastrophic natural event big enough to end it.
