Actually the British general Sir Isaac Brock used the threat that his native allies could massacre the Americans in battle to scare the Americans into submission at Detroit.

It worked perfectly, for two reasons. Brock knew that a wave of anti-native hysteria had swept the US, with many newspapers calling for the outright extermination of the "bloodthirsty savages", and he knew that the American commander at Detroit, General Hull, was particularly afraid of natives.

Brock also knew that his attacking force was greatly outnumbered by the American force hunkered down inside the fort, so he devised a scheme.

He had only 400 native allies, but he had them arrive within sight of the fort, then double back, out of sight, and "arrive" again....and again...and again...so it looked as if thousands of natives had arrived.

Hull panicked, and surrendered his much larger force, his battery of cannon, and Detroit, all without a fight. The American general was later court martialed and sentenced to death, but he had enough political influence to get the sentence commuted.

Brock, by the way, while Canadians and natives made up the largest part of his force, was not Canadian but British.
