Moccasins varied with tribe and purpose. Moccasins that were to be used for ceremonies might be highly decorated while everyday ones might be plain. They were made of all different hides, depending upon what animal was abundant in the area. The toes might be pointed or rounded. They might have been ankle high or knee high.

It would depend on the tribe, the weather, and other factors. My tribe we went naked in warm weather, and wore moccasins and animal furs in the Winter. Women always wore caps, and men wore them if they wanted extra protection from the sun.

Native Americans back in the old days wore a slipper made of leather called a moccasin. They were decorated with string and many different colors on the outside and have fur from animals on the inside.They still have moccasins today but they look very different from the ones the Native Americans had. I bet if you see one today you won't even know it is one!
