Did the marine snipers use hollow point rounds in Vietnam?

Officially, like the US Army snipers which used "Match" full metal jacketed bullets in their XM-21s (M14 US Rifles) in Vietnam, the Corps was also governed by the Geneva rules of war.

What were some of the famous battles during the Vietnam War?

The most famous air battles of the war, were the Christmas bombings of December 1972; aka Linebacker II. NVAF MiG-21s claim to have shot down a B-52 Stratofortess and two B52 tailgunners shot down two MiG21 interceptors. MiG-19 jets tangled with US jets, it was known as the "Bloodiest Day" when aired by the History's Channel "Dog-Fighting" series last year.

How successful were the north Vietnamese army and the Viet Cong in the Vietnam war?

1. The VC were effective, until they were eliminated (as an effective force) when they surfaced (and conducted conventional warfare) during the TET offensive of '68. 2. The war shifted into general warfare (escalated into conventional warfare) when the regular NVA (North Vietnamese Army) absorbed most of the fighting. By 1971, the NVA were fighting with PT76 and T54/55 tanks against ARVN units. 3. Warfare over the skies of North Vietnam had always been conventional hi-tech jet warfare. E.g. B-52's verses MiG-21's etc. At least two MiG-21s were shot down by B-52 tail gunners. Note: 21st century B52s no longer have manned tail gunners.

What major countries where involed in the Vietnam war?

Well, theoretically it was just Vietnam and the Americans, although the Americans took over the job from the French who discovered pretty quickly that it was a war they wanted no part of. But, somebody was quietly backing the North Vietnamese, and that somebody was China.
