3. The people--While Jefferson tended to trust the common folk more than Jefferson it is incorrect to assume that Jefferson felt the ordinary American was capable of governing themselves--he didn't. He was closer to Hamilton on this issue than many teachers are aware. jefferson was an elitist, just as Hamilton was, although he DID place more confidence on the common man than did Hamilton.
