At the Battle of Gettysburg, Robert E. Lee won the first two battles and was feeling pretty invincible. He felt like he could do anything without being touched. So, on the third day of the battle, he charged his army up little round top and found his army slaughtered.

Most historians consider that Robert E Lee was a good and ethical man. He felt stronger loyalty to his native state of Virginia than to the United States of America and so came to command an army in opposition to the US Army, but that did not make him bad. Just as being a slave holder I an area where slavery was legal, and wide spread did not make him bad - only a man of his time, place and inheritance.

Lee was fighting for no cause. He was against slavery yet was fighting as a Confederate. Otheriwse, Lee was an extraordinary general who graduated with honors and was well liked in the South.
