They held much diversity in both ethnicity and religion, and because of that they had much tolerance towards it. Despite what little industrial implication were enabled by Americans, colonial cities had the most of it, for example ironworks. Urban areas also were prone to crime, epidemics, vice... many turnoffs for outsiders. Another turnoff was the close vicinity of both the wealthy and poor. Colonial cities also suffered greatly from any flunctuation within the commerce of the trading system.
